I have purchased a 2011 KTM 450 EXC. This is the first bike of any kind I have ever owned. I am confused as to how often to perform critical maintenance. The dealer has told me I must change the oil, oil filter, and clean/change the air filter every 3-5 hours of use. A friend of mine told me about the same and said that KTM's are high maintenance. Gear ratios will allow you to do anything, the power is adaquate but smooth & steady, this is the kinda power you want when your seaking traction, not the fastest tire shreader in town. Offroad competition XC. I have an 2006 Ktm 450 exc, very happy with it Ive just got a question about the gearing. I had a 14/52 setup on there, was changed to 14/49. Feels a bit different to ride and it hates going on the back wheel now. What do you guys suggest running, I do mostly fire-trails and single track in pretty hilly country. I looked up ratios. 14/52 is 3.71. The 2021 KTM 450 SX-F is almost deceivingly fast on the track and produces competitive horsepower and torque figures throughout the rpm range on the dyno. This is the same thing as a Suzuki DRZ 400 S, except it has green plastic. The S model, at least in the USA, has lower compression, less aggressive cams, and a different carburetor, so it has about 5 hp less than the "E" version.
